Bloomberg Philanthropies encompasses all of Michael R. Bloomberg’s giving, including corporate, foundation, and personal philanthropy, as well as Bloomberg Associates , a pro bono consultancy that works in cities around the world. Mike has committed the vast majority of the profits from Bloomberg L.P. , the global financial technology, data, and media company that he founded in 1981, to support the work of Bloomberg Philanthropies. In 2022, we distributed $1.7 billion globally. Over his lifetime, Mike has given $14.4 billion to philanthropy. Nearly 450 students have now graduated. Explore Chile Ocean Conservation in Chile With support from our partners, local authorities in Chile established a new marine protected area, the Pisagua Sea, that covers over 181,000 acres. Globally, we have helped protect 10.8 million square miles of ocean. The city transformed an intersection at the heart of one of its oldest neighborhoods. Explore Mexico City Tobacco Control in Mexico City After 10 years of advocacy from our partners, Mexico became the latest country to ban smoking in indoor public places, bringing the total number of countries with smoke-free laws to 139. We have retired 70% of plants nationwide.
